One third of charging stations in Turkey became green stations: Total charging stations exceeded 6,000

The number of green charging stations in Turkey exceeded one third of the total number of electric charging stations by the end of January. The number of charging stations reached 6058.

The number of green charging stations in Turkey exceeded one third of the total number of electric charging stations as of the end of January.

While the number of electric vehicles and charging stations in Turkey is increasing, with the EMRA regulation that will enable these vehicles to be used in a more environmentally friendly way, charging network operator license holders can designate all or some of the charging stations in their charging network as green charging stations. Considering the rate of increase in renewable energy investments and the demand for electric vehicles, the number of green charging stations is expected to increase.

According to EMRA data, the number of charging stations in Turkey increased from 1719 at the beginning of 2023 to 6058 by the end of January, and the number of charging sockets increased from 3081 to 13160 by the end of January. The number of green charging stations reached 2206 by the end of January. Thus, the number of green charging stations in Turkey exceeded one third of the total number of electric charging stations in this period.

Charging network operator licenses reached 181

With EMRA’s regulations, a wide range of licensed players from vehicle manufacturers to fuel distribution companies, electricity generation companies to start-ups have entered the market.

Within the framework of the “Charging Service Regulation”, which determines the procedures and principles regarding the establishment of charging units and stations that provide electrical energy supply to electric vehicles, the establishment of charging networks and charging stations connected to charging networks, the operation of charging networks and charging stations connected to charging networks, and the provision of charging services, 181 companies have been granted charging network operator licenses to date. On the other hand, license applications and licensing procedures are ongoing.

The certification that all of the electricity supplied to vehicles at green charging stations is generated by renewable energy sources is realized through the “Renewable Energy Resource Guarantee Certificate (YEK-G Certificate)”, which is traded in the market operated by EPİAŞ. Within this framework, the legislative work to create synergy between the electric vehicle ecosystem and the YEK-G system has been completed.

With the Şarj@TR application, the locations and information of charging stations can be seen

In addition, the “Şarj@TR” mobile application developed by EMRA allows citizens to instantly see the geographical location of charging stations, the number, type and power of charging units and sockets, payment methods, availability and charging service prices. In addition, information such as the number of charging stations, units, sockets and socket types in each city is also published on the website of the organization, which is open to the access of all citizens.

The cities with the highest number of electric vehicle stations and sockets in Turkey are as follows;
