According to data compiled by the Automotive Distributors and Mobility Association (ODMD), the share of fully electric car sales in the total market in Turkey reached 5.5% in January. Togg achieved a market share of 45.9% in its own category. There was a 401% increase in fully electric car sales.
Last month, automobile and light commercial vehicle sales increased by 56.6% compared to the same period in 2023, rising to 79,701 units. During this period, automobile sales increased by 71.7% to 64,041 units, while light commercial vehicle sales increased by 15.1% to 15,660 units. These figures represent the highest January sales data on record.
Hybrid sales surpassed diesel
In the Turkish automobile market, petrol cars ranked first with 41,212 sales last month, followed by hybrid cars with 10,260 sales.
Diesel car sales amounted to 8,055, while autogas car sales reached 541 units. Sales of fully electric cars powered solely by electricity reached 3,542 units.
Togg followed by German brands
According to ODMD data, the number of brands selling at least one electric model in Turkey increased from one in 2012 to 27 in October 2023. Togg’s rise among electric car brands continued in January. Togg topped the market with 1,625 units sold last month. Thus, one out of every two electric cars sold in the market was a Togg. Following Togg were Mercedes-Benz with 260 units, BMW with 228 units, Tesla with 220 units, and BYD with 155 units. Looking at specific models, the Togg T10X was the best-selling model, followed by the Tesla Model Y, BMW 5 Series, BYD Atto 3, and Mercedes-Benz EQB, respectively.
